Portfolio: Vote Smart
In collaboration with Brooke Chornyak, Tony Fugolo & Sidney Fritz
Vote Smart Raleigh is an interactive
environment that employs spatial and visual
cues and navigation strategies to inform and
orient voters in Raleigh while reinforcing
the concepts of participation and community
as part of the voting experience.
Informed by Kevin Lynch’s theories of wayfinding and urban
planning, Vote Smart Raleigh investigates the organizing schemas for
physical space and deploys them in an online environment.
While the audience of this site would ideally be all legal voters
of Raleigh who are motivated to make an informed vote at the polls,
this prototype focuses on Judy Smalls, who is new to Raleigh and the
election process. As she moves through the system, the goals of Vote
Smart Raleigh are to clarify the voting process in Raleigh,
geographically orient residents of Raleigh in the upcoming
election—particularly new ones, like Judy—and promote an informed
vote, giving Judy the information she needs to make educated
decisions in electing new officials and a practice ballot to take to the polls.
